R. J. (Becky) Wade was born in Darlington, in the UK. An avid reader and wannabe writer from a young age, Becky always had a book in her hand and loved getting lost in stories by authors such as Roald Dahl, R. L. Stine, and Enid Blyton. She would write short stories, comic strips, and poems after school, and eventually, during the summer of BritPop, she discovered song-writing and electric guitars.
Becky’s creativity found an outlet in a series of indie rock bands, and her music took her around the world, from the USA to Japan, via Europe and the UK ‘toilet-circuit’ – a rite of passage for any up and coming musician.
It wasn’t all rock ‘n’ roll, however. In between the shows, the video shoots, and the recording sessions, there were stints working as a market trader, a (very bad) double-glazing telesales person, a bookseller, a DJ, a club promoter, and an events manager.
In between ‘proper jobs,’ Becky turned her attentions back to writing stories, thinking maybe it was time she wrote that novel she’d always dreamed about...
The novel became the 'Aura Jax' trilogy, a dystopian urban fantasy about the terrors of totalitarianism and the rise of AI, which resonated with fans of The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Red Queen and The Maze Runner.
Aura – the first book in the trilogy – was released in August 2019 to wide acclaim, and the second book, The Spark, followed on 31st January 2022. Becky is currently working on the third and final book, tentatively called Wildfire.
Becky lives in Darlington with her fiancée and rescue dog, dividing her time between writing, CrossFitting, and launching marketing campaigns.
