Writing this final part of Aura’s story has been a long road! Due to life drama, work demands, and the desire to give her the send off she deserves, it has taken much more time than I imagined, and has been through many iterations over the past three years.

From writing my first draft of the novel, to finally typing ‘The End’, artificial intelligence has gone from being the domain of sci-fi novels and futurists, to an all-encompassing wave that has revolutionised – and will continue to revolutionise – the way we live our lives.

Yet, despite the warning tone of this final chapter in Aura Jax’s adventure – and despite often playing devils advocate – I am positive about AI.

I hope that artificial intelligence can make our lives better, giving us more time for creative pursuits, for spending time in nature, and for caring for one another – the things that truly make us human and the things that make our lives worth living.
